Nestled in 900 acres, commonly known as the South Texas Medical Center, sits UT Health San Antonio, a premier academic health institution.

Few industries are as dependent on long-lasting, hygienic flooring as the healthcare & medical industry. So, when it came time for UT Health and Science Center to update their research rooms' floors and walls, it was no surprise they entrusted T.W. Hicks, Inc. industrial floor specialists with a complete floor-to-ceiling installation.

UT Health Research Room Overhaul

As the only designated National Cancer Institute in South Texas, UT Health San Antonio MD Anderson Cancer Center conducts more than 200 clinical trials in over 30 types of cancers.

Because the UT Health and Science Center performs critical research in a wide variety of fields, their work areas must be kept free from contaminants that could alter testing.

Before we got there, the existing floors were outdated, and the walls consisted of old glazed brick that was difficult to clean and could store unwanted bacteria.

T.W. Hicks, Inc. medical flooring contractors near me were asked to overhaul these rooms from floor-to-ceiling to create an environment that was safe, sanitary, and easy to clean to be suitable for research activities.

Floor-to-Ceiling Installation

With safety and cleanliness a top priority, we decided on the Sikafloor life science flooring system for UT Health's floors, and the SIKA fiberglass reinforced wall system for their walls.

By tying the wall, ceiling, and floor into a single system and rounding inside corners, cracks, and crevices, the potential to harbor contaminants is eliminated. The result is a hygienic, aesthetic, seamless surface that is easy to clean and maintain.

The benefits of the complete SIKA system for medical, pharmaceutical and research facilities include:

  • Superb chemical, mechanical, and thermal resistance,

  • Sika's wall system integrates seamlessly with the floor with rounded corners and sculpted cove bases.

  • The non-porous and resin-rich system means easy cleaning and maintenance.

  • Environmentally friendly VOC compliant.

  • Superior UV stability for long-lasting color and clarity retention.

  • Never require stripping or waxing, so maintenance costs are reduced.

UT Health requested that the prep work for the project be done in the evening to reduce noise throughout the facility. And due to the critical and classified nature of their work, UTHSC only allows a select few trusted individuals into their research building.

T.W. Hicks, Inc. medical flooring contractors near me were able to accommodate these needs, and UTHSC trusted our team to come in and complete the project quickly and professionally.
