Industrial Epoxy Flooring for a 1.5M SF Semiconductor Facility in Texas
When Austin Commercial selected T.W. Hicks to install industrial epoxy flooring systems at a new semiconductor fabrication plant in Sherman, Texas, we knew what we were walking into. Over a million and a half square feet. A schedule that had zero tolerance for surprises. We're grateful they trusted us with it.

What the Floor Had to Do
In a semiconductor facility, the floor is as much a part of the process as the equipment sitting on top of it. The coatings have to resist aggressive chemicals, stay seamless and cleanable, and hold up under continuous robotic traffic — reliably, for decades.
Our scope covered floors, curbs, trenches, sumps, pits, electrical lids, cove base, vertical coatings, and concrete sealers. Every zone had its own demands, and every zone got a system engineered to meet them. Projects like this are a great example of the large-scale industrial epoxy flooring systems we design and install—learn more about our full range of flooring solutions on our services page.
This type of industrial epoxy flooring for semiconductor facilities requires precision, durability, and long-term performance under extreme conditions.
In a semiconductor plant, even the floor can't have a bad day.
The Part We're Most Proud Of
Partway through the project, our team noticed that the main corridor of the facility was going to take a level of punishment the originally specified coating system wasn't really built for. Nobody flagged it as a problem. We just saw it and felt like we should say something.
So we brought it to Austin Commercial, sat down with the product manufacturer, and upgraded those areas to a heavy-duty slurry epoxy with the impact and abrasion resistance to hold up under constant robotic loads.
That’s the difference in how we approach industrial epoxy flooring—we don’t just install what’s specified, we think long-term.
The floor in that facility will still be performing long after most people have forgotten we installed it. That matters to us more than the shortcut.
543 Days in North Texas
A year and a half on a single project teaches you a lot about your team. Here's what ours navigated:
Temperature and humidity. Coating applications are sensitive. Our crew adjusted methods and scheduling through every North Texas season. (Texas weather has never once read a project timeline.)
Flooding. Storms flooded the trenches and sumps. We pumped them out and got back to work.
Hard deadlines. Equipment shipped from overseas had strict arrival dates. We increased crew sizes, worked weekends and holidays, and had every area ready when the equipment showed up.
Supply chain. Our manufacturer PPG hit a raw material shortage mid-project. We worked through it together and didn't lose a day.
Zero Safety Incidents
Over 1.5 million square feet, 543 days, and zero safety incidents.
Every crew member was certified in OSHA 10 and 30, Silica Awareness, First Aid and CPR, Confined Space Entry, Respiratory Fit Testing, and Fall Protection. Our foreman ran daily safety box meetings — not because it was required, but because that's how we work. Every crew member went home the same way they showed up. That's the standard we hold ourselves to.
What Our Client Said
Terry Boyd, General Superintendent at Austin Commercial:
"T.W. Hicks understands what it takes to execute on large-scale commercial projects and consistently delivers quality flooring systems. Their team is professional, easy to work with, and performs at a high level in the field. When they're on the job, we know the work will be done right."
A Note on the Award
This project took First Place at the Coatings Pro Contractor Awards. We're honored, and a little humbled if we're being real about it. Awards like this belong to the crew who showed up every morning, and the partners who helped us navigate something this complex. The trophy is nice. The floor is better.
Thank you to Austin Commercial for trusting us with it. And to our team — this one's yours.
