Stanley Black & Decker

Stanley Black & Decker is a household name, known for the iconic brands under its umbrella, including Black & Decker, Bostich, DEWALT, Porter Cable, Stanley, and more. When Stanley Black & Decker acquired the American CRAFTSMAN brand, it was eager to begin revitalizing a brand that has been around for decades.

A part of this process was opening a new CRAFTSMAN manufacturing facility right here in North Texas, the first new plant opening in many years. Our team at T.W. Hicks was excited to partner with Hillwood Construction to bring this project to life.

Specialized, 4 Phase Approach

The Stanley Black & Decker facility totalled 372,900 total square feet, making this project a huge undertaking. Our team of commercial flooring contractors in Dallas decided to break this down into 4 individual phases, each with its own specialized commercial flooring system and needs:

Phase 1: Factory Area

With start up schedules and equipment delivery schedules looming, our team was asked to fast-track the flooring system in the 328,400 square feet factory area. This meant flooring had to go down before the concrete slabs fully cured! We turned to our manufacturer for their recommendation to keep this project on time and on schedule.  They recommended their MVR, moisture vapor reducing primer.  The MVR was the perfect primer that allows it to be installed over concrete that still has some moisture in it.

  • Epoxy Build Coat

  • High Wear Urethane Top Coats

Phase 2: Wastewater Treatment & Chemical Storage Area

The flooring system needed in this area had several requirements. 1) This is a wet area, meaning the floor must have non-skid properties to make it safe for employees and equipment operation alike. 2) This area holds chemical storage tanks, so the ability to provide a true protective barrier from any chemical leaching was absolutely necessary.

Phase 3: Heat Treat and Plating Area

Each phase of this project required different needs, and this phase involved the need to stand up against harsh chemicals, solvents, and heat. If the wrong flooring is selected by commercial flooring contractors in Dallas, then it is prone to cracking: a huge problem. For this phase, we chose a fiberglass reinforced coating and lining system to prevent any issues down the road.

Phase 4: Vibe, Plating, and Chemical Storage Trenches

Trenching is a delicate process; one that takes precision and careful planning. These trenches would be holding water and chemicals nearly all the time, so they had to hold up to the harsh conditions and must be free of any pinholes or defects. All trenching was 2 feet wide and between 2-3 feet deep.

Committed to Excellence & Training

Our team not only wants to install a great product, but we love showing our customers how to maintain their new flooring systems for the long haul. We brought in Tennant Company in to demonstrate proper floor maintenance and how to operate their state-of-the-art equipment.
