North Richland Hills Fire Station #3

T.W. Hicks is proud to share our most recent project we had the pleasure of doing. T.W. Hicks was hired by the City of North Richland Hills to install new polished concrete flooring in the North Richland Hills Fire Station #3. The product manufacturer chosen for this project was Prosoco. We completed the Truck Bays area of the Fire Station and it turned out great.

The Prosoco product used was the Consolideck® LS® concrete sealer, hardener, and densifier. The Consolideck® LS® is a penetrating lithium silicate treatment that reacts with concrete to produce insoluble calcium silicate hydrate within the concrete pores. When used, the treated surfaces resist damage from water and surface abrasion. The Consolideck® LS® also increases the hardness of the surface which eliminates dusting and simplifies maintenance producing a cleaner, healthier environment. Prosoco provides a safer, faster and easier treatment to apply than conventional sodium or potassium silicate hardeners with Consolideck® LS® and by using this product, it will not trigger or contribute to surface ASR (Alkali Silicate Reaction).

Floor Preparation

Before the Consolideck® LS® treatment could begin, our TW Hicks team removed the existing failed coating from the concrete substrate. This removal process was done using diamatic diamond grinders. We polished the floor starting with 40 grit diamonds and went up to 120 grit diamonds.

Floor Installation

For the installation, we first polished the floor with resin bonds 100-grit and finished with 600-grit. After polishing the floor, we then burnished the floor with high speed burnishing machines. We then finished with the Prosoco Consolideck® LS® treatment.

Because of the heavy wheeled traffic from fire trucks day in and day out, fire stations are very abusive environments. In addition, there is constant impact on the floors from dropping heavy hoses and connectors. A fire station must have a floor that can withstand heavy abuse and chemical attack, but at the same time should be easy to clean and safe against slippage/falls. By using the Prosoco Consolideck® LS® treatment, the North Richland Hills Fire Station #3 now has a durable floor that looks great. We are proud to showcase this great project!
